Senior living dining has taken a turn in recent years—for the better. Cafeterias are no longer cutting it for the sophisticated and well-traveled residents of today’s senior living communities, and they are making way for restaurant-style dining and highly trained professional chefs.
One of those communities is Fox Hill, in Bethesda, Maryland. Showing its commitment to high-end cuisine, Fox Hill recently announced the hire of former Ritz-Carlton chef Quang Duong.
Chef Duong’s resume spans restaurants and hospitality, having been trained in France, and under world renowned chef Alain Ducasse—a Michelin Star-rated chef and restaurateur. He anticipates his work in luxury hotels will prepare him well for a more personal approach to the residents at Fox Hill.

In honor of the anniversary of the first residents moving into The Clare six years ago, residents Sally and Ron Kinnamon share their joy. They were among the first to move into The Clare and pleased with their decision due to the engaged community, wonderful location and fabulous food.
“I always say to visitors, ‘welcome to paradise,’” said Sally Kinnamon. Sally and her husband Ron were among the first to move into The Clare, a luxury retirement community in Chicago’s Gold Coast, in 2009. “Retirement communities used to have the stereotype of being a place to lay down and die. At The Clare, you move into a situation where you can really live,” said Sally. “The engaged community, wonderful location and fabulous food…it’s a good life. It’s a very good life.”

Alexis comes to Solutions Advisors with over 16 years of vigorous management experience in the healthcare industry specializing in startup locations, acquisitioned properties and challenged saturated markets. She has been responsible for developing and implementing strategies to drive sale and topline revenue within a competitive healthcare market. Her responsibility for recruiting top talent management has been pivotal in the success of each community Alexis has managed.
Most recently positioned as the Vice President of the Eastern Division of Sunrise Senior Living, covering Canada to Georgia, Alexis was responsible for 114 communities, 8527 units and 9540 residents. Over her 16 year healthcare career Alexis has been tasked with being an Executive Director, Regional Director of Operations and Sales, Account Executive and Cluster Marketing Director. Her passion for healthcare came from her early career as a Resident Aid working with seniors in a nursing home. In addition to managing assisted living and personal care, Alexis has also managed skilled nursing, home care, independent living and memory care.
PRINCETON, N.J. – Solutions Advisors, a specialist company for senior living and retirement communities, has been awarded the management contract for Gull Creek Senior Living of the Town of Berlin, MD. Gull Creek is a full service independent living, assisted living and memory care community under the new ownership of an affiliate of WMD Asset Management, LLC, a national leader in whole loan, mortgage-backed securities, and real estate investing.
Gull Creek Senior Living provides 86 total units, including 38 studio, one and two-bedroom apartments for independent living, 38 assisted living residences and 10 for memory care. Gull Creek Senior Living offers residents a variety of services and amenities including dining, entertainment and activities as well as access to Historic Berlin, MD, located a short distance from Assateague Island and the Ocean City Boardwalk.
SA Management will direct all management services, including direction of key management personnel, marketing and leasing. With its creative partner, Retiring by Design, SA Management will handle all of the advertising services as well as development of new branding for the community.
Paula brings to Solutions Advisors more than 25 years of strategic marketing management experience from the hospitality and senior living industry. We are very excited to welcome her into our Solutions Advisors team!
During her time as Director of Marketing at Cadbury at Lewes, a non-profit CCRC, Paula and her team achieved an increase in independent living occupancy from 72% in 2009 to 90% in 2014. She has been actively involved in all areas of sales and marketing, including development and implementation of integrated marketing plans, strategic planning, advertising, direct mail, events, website management and community outreach.
During her tenure at Methodist Manor House, occupancy increased 10% through the development of a rental contract for independent living as well as extensive community outreach to the ministers of the Peninsula-Delaware Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Over 50 attendees heard a presentation by Patti Adami and Sarah Albiston, of Solutions Advisors, at LeadingAge Ohio held in Columbus last week. Called “The New 3R’s – Rebranding, Repositioning and Revitalizing,” the presentation emphasized the need for retirement communities to recognize when their ‘product’ reaches a critical stage and begins a downturn resulting in decreased occupancy. Repositioning means investing in the physical changes needed to align with new customer expectations – potentially adding new dining venues, fitness centers or remodeling living units- while rebranding involves a redefining of your core identity and potentially a graphic makeover to update and refresh your public face.
